FluxWerks combines the logistics of a large-scale factory game with a procedural voxel world in which every block can be mined, moved or built on. Players start with a swarm of nanobots that harvests terrain and 3D-prints structures. From there they build a production chain that runs from hand-fed smelters to automated science and computing. The world is a simulation that the factory works with, not a backdrop. Fluids such as water and lava flow through one shared simulation and react when they meet. Heat spreads block by block through the terrain and into machines, so where and how a factory is built matters. The weather plays a part as well: wind speed decides how much a wind turbine produces, and machines caught in a blizzard wear down faster. There is no combat and no pressure to rush. Pollution does have a consequence: an alien growth takes hold around a heavily polluting factory and has to be cut back, which gives players a reason to think about how cleanly they produce. It is forgiving, and it can be switched off entirely for a more relaxed game.
